Problem and Solution

           

                  Problem and Solution 


  On Monday 24th April, we studied chapter 9: Problem and Solution.First of all, the teacher checked our names.  Then, the teacher gave us the handout about the problem and solution. After that, she told us to read the Problem and Solution






Problem and Solution is a pattern of organization where information in a passage is expressed as a dilemma concerning issue (a problem) and something that should be done to remedy this issue. (solution) 









Next, we started to read the example which was about the teen pregnancies. She read and gave us repeat after her. Then, she gave us look the diagram in the text and we had to see the discourse markers too.






 I will let you know the problem and solution of this text.

The solution are Birth Control and Abstinence (avoid having sex)

Later, she let us know about the problem markers and solution markers. Then, we started to do the Skill practice by circling the problem markers and highlight the solution markers.











Then, the teacher told us to do the exercise 1  when we just did the first text finished , the teacher asked us for the answer to the one. So, the teacher gave us the corrective feedback of the first text after we answer it. 







                                  On that day, I found a difficult thing that I couldn’t write the title and the main idea in the text that I read perfectly  I think this lesson is similar to cause and effect. But it has explanation in solution. I feel this lesson is neutral. Yet, I should analyze the text what is problem and what is solution. Also, I have to think what solution is. Hence, I should study hard in order to understand this lesson greatly.

Exemplification




On Monday 10th April, we learned about “Chapter 8: Exemplification”   When the teacher came to the classroom, she checked our names.The teacher read and explained the text at the same time.
The text is to let us know there are two main categories of whales. One is toothed. Another one is baleen. I knew that each of types has many species. 


 I would like to show you about some species both toothed and baleen categories 


 Toothed Categories 

 The Sperm Whale 


 The Beluga or White Whale 


 The Killer Whale or Orca 

 Baleen Categories 

 The Blue Whale 

 The Grays 

 The Minke Whale 


After we finished reading, she gave us complete the diagram the species both toothed and baleen categories on the whiteboard.


Later, she gave us highlight the discourse markers in the text and answer the question by ticking T which statement is true and F which statement is false. 






We finished studying this lesson. We must study new lesson which is Exemplification. 
Do you know exactly? What does it mean.


Well, it means to use specific, vivid examples for the purpose of adding more information to explain, persuade, define, or illustrate a general idea. Likewise, exemplification provides solid support and strong evidence to prove the writer's main statement. Appropriate examples also create interest in a writing assignment.







She explained the definition of exemplification and also let us know the discourse markers in the text.


After finished explaining, we started reading in text 1 which is College Students' Pressures. When we finished reading, we ought to complete the diagram in order to check our comprehension. 


The test made us know about College Students' Pressures have examples that support them. One is job and school work balance. Second one is Financial Pressures and the last one is Different atmosphere adjustment.  









Then, the teacher told us to do the text 2,3,4: read the text and answer the questions correctly.Last, the teacher let my  friends showed their videos.



In my opinion, Finding the discourse markers was easy for me. Because I knew these conjunction as well. I will learn as much as I can in order to understand and do in testing as well.

Definition and Classification

 On Monday 3rd April, I studied “definition and classification”.First of all, the teacher checked our name in the classroom.

And then, she taught us about the discourse markers of definition and classification. 
So, it will help us to find the meaning of the unknown word in the text. 
By finding the discourse markers of definition in the text such as is, i.e., comma, etc.




Then, she gave us find the meaning of definition and classification from Cambridge Dictionary. Here are the meaning:


 Definition : a statement that explains the meaning of a word or phrase 

                      Psychology is by definition an inexact science.



 Classification : the act of process of dividing things into groups according to their type







After that, she explained us about “strategies” definition and classification. Then, she told us to do           the skill practice 1. After we did it finished, she gave us the corrective feedback about this activity. 

From this exercise, it made me analyze the text as well because I also knew what is technical term including its definition too. I noticed discourse markers. Hence, They made me understand the text as well. However, I should practice reading more about the text related with classification and definition in order to be understand exactly. 










After that, we started doing Skill practice 2 by reading each of paragraphs. Then, we has to circle the Classification Markers. Next, draw a diagram showing the classification.


 I would like to show you about skill practice 2 that I had already done. 






In my opinion, Finding the discourse markers is easy for me. Because I know these conjunction as well and I will learn as much as I can in order to understand and do in testing as well.
