"Procedure continues" and " Comparision and Contrast"

On Monday 6th March, I studied “Procedure” and “Comparison and Contrast”she read the text 3 This text is about the toaster which lets us know about the using of this appliances.                             So, there are many questions that we had to find the answers from this text, It was neutral either but looked puzzle because of much information in the text.

After I had done it, the teacher gave us the corrective feedback. While she was giving the corrective feedback

Next, she told us to open the first page of this handout. So, it was about the “purpose”, “types of procedural texts”, “text organization”, and “language features”.

- The purpose of the procedure is to tell the reader how to do or make something.
- Types of procedural texts are
1.Texts explain how something works or how to use instruction/operation manuals,                   2. Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity, and 3.Texts that deal with human behavior.
- Text organization – Goal, Material, and Method.

Next, she gave us to look at the screen which is apples and oranges pictures. Then, she gave us to find about what is similar and different between apples and oranges. So, she brought this toward the new reason that was “Comparison and Contrast”.

Next, the teacher read and explained the example 1.
Then, she told us to compare between the high context culture student and the low context culture student so the example 1

High context culture student
- More skilled in the reading non-verbal behaviors
- Speak less
- Listen more
- Communication tends to be indirect and less explicit

Low context culture student

- Emphasize verbal messages and shared information they encode.
- Speak more
- Listen less
- Stress direct and explicit communication

After that, we started reading in text 2 which is Andrew Hurricane and Hurrican Katrina. After we finished reading, she gave us to write the board about the differences and similarities of them.

 Hurricane Katrina

In short, Hurricane Andrew was more dangerous than Hurricane Katrina. In contrast, Hurricane Katrina was more destructive and worse than Hurricane Andrew.

I would like to show you how they are similar and different.

 Hurricane Andrew

 Category 5

 175 mph winds

 Nearly 17 feet storm surges

 $25 billion property damage

 26 people died

 It's stronger than Hurricane  Katrina

 Hurricane Katrina

 Category 3

 120 mph winds

 12 feet storm surges

 $81 billion property damage

 More than 1,800 people died

 More destruction and fatalities

In my opinion, thinking about the main idea is difficult for me. I have to read more in order to understand and specify the main idea as well.

I think that this lesson is important in reading. I can compare each of things and know that what is better. However, I should practice to read more because some conjunctions which are related with the comparisons and differences haven't known before.
